A letter from our Head of School
Since its inception in 1966, The Children’s Storefront has been opening doors of opportunity for the underserved youth of Harlem. Many of our children begin at The Storefront as preschoolers, often as young as four years old, and stay until high school. We create a safe haven and a sense of constancy in what can otherwise be a chaotic and formidable environment. We provide our students with excellent academics, and we reinforce core values that give our students the tools they need to be successful in high school and beyond. We instill pride and confidence with an educational experience that encourages creativity and social responsibility.
The Storefront’s holistic approach to education focuses on educating the whole child. A 9 to 1 student-teacher ratio allows us to provide individual attention. Every student’s uniqueness is guided and supported by our talented faculty helping each child see his or her own worth and recognize the special contribution that every single person can make in the world.
This transformational educational environment would not be feasible without the help of parents, families, staff and the larger community who believes in our mission and our children. The Storefront is more than a school; it’s a place of genuine hope for the families of our Harlem neighborhood. The landscape of New York City is ever changing and continually presents new challenges. The Children’s Storefront prepares our young people to rise to those challenges and to expand their ideas of what is possible for them.
