Filemaker
- As of August 2007, we are moving to a new database system called Filemaker
- Click here to see a typical student record
- Click here to see a typical teacher record
- Click here to see a typical household record which can include 3 parent/guardian contacts per student with info automatically/automagically linked and transferred
- Click here to see a typical 3 column report (many more to come; we will also be able to design our own)
Getting Started
- You need to have Filemaker (for the mac or for the pc) installed on your computer ... currently we own 10 legal copies to distribute
- You need to point your filemaker to pvc????.dyndns.org/
- You need to use the login of "a????" and password of "g?????" which we will refer to as the "g password"
- To make the above steps easiers, we will have a "StorefrontFMstartup" file to install as
part of installing Filemaker onto your computer
Tips and Tricks
- Below you see the ICON in the bottom left corner of every Filemaker Screen that allows you to
magnify ("big mountains") or demagnify ("little mountains")
- Below you see the main navigation tool for the 3 different databases that are integrated in the system
- Below you see how easy it is to FIND any entity (student or staff or parent or guardian) ... just type in a portion
of the first name or a portion of the last name and click the FIND button
- Below you see how easy it is to FIND any grade level ... just type in the number and
and click the FIND button ... for now, we are using 0 to mean Kindergarten and -1 to mean pre-K
- Below you see the INFO FORM which contains 3 contacts in a household for a student plus 1 emergency contact ... we will have the ability to
revise this to contain more than 3 or 4 or 5 contacts ... even 33 if we want!
- Below you see the special options on the right hand side that allow you TOTAL control in a spreadsheet
view of the data ... you can resize columns, move columns and of course export to Excel!
- Below you see the household associated with a fake student named Jane Doe ... notice that each one
gets defined in terms of the relationship to Jane and that we have five contacts in this example
- From Peter 3/10/08 ...I've added some functionality to the system to let you enter attendance, more or less the way you have it in your spreadsheet. Here?s a quick video summary:

I still need to finish up a print report that would get you totals and show all the numbers by week. Will let you know when that's ready
Also, I still need to convert your spreadsheet numbers into system data, which is a little tricky in the way that it is laid out. Will let you know when that?s working.
Oct 20 2008 Update re Server and Fixed IP
The request for public ip to the FileMaker server has been completed. The IP will be 63.139.199.118 with port tcp5003 open. Please let me know if it's working or not. Once this step is completed I will make the necessary dns changes for it to resolve to a name. Steve, we are still looking into a secure way of allowing file sharing over the internet from that server. Feel free to contact me with any questions. (Roger)
I am at home now and while neither of the attached FMLaunchers would work, I was indeed able to access Filemaker via fmnet:/63.139.199.118/SF_UI (Steve)
Windows Active Directory
there is a group called FM_Faculty on windows active directory
