- wire the subbasement of 61 with 4 ethernet cables coming down from the hub room
- replace all switches in all 3 tech closets ... these are all 7 years old
==> click
here for a summary of servers and pictures of all tech closets
- Building 57 has 2 Baystack 450 Switches ... they are 450-24T from 1999-2000 but Nick S says they were excellent
devices back then ... this means 48 ports ... there is a 3COM device on top with 24 ports for power over ethernet ... there is a UPS ... each Baystack is 24 .. 24 + 24 = 48 ... patch panel has 48 ... 3com24 .. NIck says 1 48 port power over Ethernet might be appropriate
- Building 61 has ONE 3Com24 and THREE Nortel 24 (3 x 24=72) .. .the patch panel has 3x24 =72
- Building 70 has 3 Baystack 40 switches also from 1999-2000 ... there is a 3COM "2226" Power Over Ethernet for Phones from Summer 2006 ... there is a Stratum 100 Wirelss Bridge (purchased 2001-2002) made by WaveSpan, acquired by Proxim ... there are 12 POTS lines from threading room closet South that feed the two
phone boxes ... there is an NBX100 from 1999-2000 that is VOIP ... THREE Baystacks (3x24=72)
- put in proper racks for all 3 server closets ... as bruno told me, this is tier 2, but I have been advised that
if have e-rate equipment then it is okay to put it for proper racks and envrionmentals for the equipment
- new phone system which includes VOIP for outgoing calls and VOIP cells with GPS on the street ... I understand that the hand sets will not be eligible but I
believe ... I understand from Bruno that I need to separate the system from the voip service and that the cells to be part of this system get paid for
by use, even though the service for the cells is e-rateable ... as Bruno explained, the cells are like the work stations
- we need to connect our buildings across the street with something newer than the 7 year old device we have ... I have been told by Bruno that
e-rate will not pay for something that crosses a major thoroughfare ... Rubin said that we tried a cable underground several years ago
and there was too much red tape and paperwork
==> click
here for a picture of the roof device as well as the building that we may own
by Sept 2008
- we need to include all necessary wiring and infrastructure and switch closet in our new building that
we expect to purchase ... this includes 4 drops per room in a total of 15 rooms on the 4 floors of this adjacent building
- replacement of the 3 old servers in the computer lab and a rack to consolidate and protect environment ... one server is the DNS/DHCP srever ...
another server is use for Raiser's Edge and Library databases ... third server is for Applications
-- designate servers by function
-- bruno says calculator on web will tell you how many times in the last 5 years our school has
asked for hardwares
- video conferencing unit to facilitate distance learning with other schools
- replace the firewall and router
- a "monitor in the rack" as part of the consolidated server rack ... some people call this the "Chloe
monitor" because of the TV Series "24"
- continuation of the 5 different areas that we received e-rate for this past year
- network tech maintenance from Kwah
- Verizon local
- Verizon long distance
- Verizon cell phone service
- Paetec T1 ISP
Other notes
Victor is interested in video security and surveillance ... cameras ... speakers in the hallways but understands
that this is not e-rate-able ... one of had consultants had said when interviewing that security is not e-rateable
we may need to do a phone audit to add more phones
advice from Bruno re 471 at end of January
separate out
-- internet
-- phones
-- internal stuff
bruno says if it says 3COM in the Hub closet, it means over ethernet
