• approximately 30 phones ... model 1202 or 2102
• Katie is 201 and Jessica is 241 ("added 40") ... so Jessica can have friends and relatives call 241 and leave a message or can call 201 and try to reach Katie in that room
• this is a limitation of the software or perhaps the system we have
• Wayne is purchasing on behalf of Storefront a full NBX 100 system from another school (main box, 10 phones) ... this is for 12-24 months only to have spare parts from Aug 07 to Aug 08 ... part of the tech plan is to have a new system in 08-09
• all phones except Bruno's 221 are set as default user .. 221 is set as super user
• 398 and 399 are excluded from the directory
• USER tab is easy
• DIAL plan is complicated ... beware ... best done by Chris or someone at 3coms

• the telephone TAB can help you identify problems ... so if you see UNKNOWN in the STATUS column, it might mean that the phone is not physically there or perhaps unplugged or if the phone is broken (perhaps)
• there are several phones at storefront that are not part of this NBX 100 system main fax in June's office ... fax in development .. fax in business office ... emergency line in what is now Adjowah's office ... possibly one in Michael's office
• under SYSTEM CONFIGURATION ROW, choose SECURITY, then the user ... it then resets the password as the extension
• the jack means nothing ... if Bruno moved his phone physically to Kathy's office, it would still ring as 221
• phones get used as "school clocks" ... the time loses a minute or two per month ... the feature called SYSTEM SETTIGNS is the first TAB under SYSTEM CONFIGURATION row
• a special feature of the phone system lets a few people (Kathy, Victor, Bruno) announce on the "phone PA system" ... pick up the phone dial russell ... jeter ... pizza .. ("no prompt or feedback") and speak
• the extension of 398 is the school status hotline that outsiders hear when they push "7" ... to record a new voice message for this, dial into storefront and choose 398 ... you will be prompted for the password adn then allowed to re-record that message that parents hear ... bruno left me (steve) with the a one page handout sheet from Dec 5, 2005 that gives instructions
• trick from bruno? dial 958 to hear the number that that number is using from verizon ... WLT ... think of WILT Chamberlin without the I
• phone call from outside start at top of hunt group ... calls going out start from bottom of hunt group
• bruno says to tell verizon that ALL lines are not working rather than just one so that they come out and test all of them ... every six months or so, one of the phone connections gets rust under a sewer cap on 129th street ... there are 12 lines in our hunt group referred to 701 to 712 which can be found by choosing LINE CARD PORT on the DEVICE CONFIGURATION ROW ... from any administrator phone that has been tagged as SUPER USER GROUP (e.g. Bruno's phone at 221) you can dial out on that number to test it
• to reprogram the universal buttons on the right hand side of each phone, choose TELEPHONE GROUPS on the DEVICE CONFIGURATION ROW ... now choose DEFAULT BUSINESS PHONE GROUP and tehn choose BUTTON MAPPINGS .. you will see diagram .. keep 3 blank on the bottom for people to put people on hold ... lock of course
• on the DOWNLOADS ROW you can choose LABEL MAKERS
• on the DOWNLOADS ROW you can choose SOFTWARE then NBX CALL REPORTS to get usage reports
• update 12/22/07 ... SB ... to change the DEVICE NAME field of the phone, go to TAB TO IT then go to DEVICE CONFIG in the second row, then go to TELEPHONES ...you can now change DEVICE NAME
• update 8/6/07 ... all of the items from Kathy have been done ... after making the changes with the extensions, I need to RESET 4 passwords to be the extension numbers using the SECURITY feature ... so there were two menu choices to make once I found the TABS menu ... one on the third row, one on the fourth row

• Chris from Troi showed me that the time of the phone is a FEATURE of the system ... nothing is done automatic ... click here or here to see where this feature is foundon the software

Summary from the hassle in mid-June 2008

• Outsiders were getting endless ringing with no pickup
• From Victor 6/24/08 ... around 2:55 pm I asked them to remove the forward and to make the 7900 number be busy so that it will roll over automatically to the next number in the hunt group. If this fails, they will manually forward it to the next number which is 212-427-0462 or 212-427-3837.
• From Victor later that day 6/24/08 ... As of right now when you dial 212-427-7900 you can actually reach our school. The way that it is happening is that the 7900 is "busied out" and the next number in the hunt group is picking up the calls. I was told that when the 7900 issue is fixed it will automatically resume to its original state.
• Ever since the Celtics won the championship we have had nothing but trouble here :)

Conversation with Bruno 7/5/08 morning and action plan

• Bruno was surprised to hear that when I dial the 12 phone numbers on the Hunt list I get a message that says "not in service at this moment"
• It turns out that the phone numbers above constitute the OLD Hunt group (prior to Nov 2006) ... click here for NEW Hunt group (as of Dec 2006)
• I shared with Bruno the fact that a prospective employee called the school several times on Wednesday and could not get through ... he shared with the fact that our phone system is configured for ONLY 3 or 4 incoming calls allowed at once ... I never knew this before ... even though we have 12 phones that can be used for incoming or outgoing calls, our system maxes out when we have 3 or 4 incoming calls ... this means (to me) that the observation that the new prospective employee could not get through may NOT be definitive in concluding that the phone system has a current problem
• I have tested now several times having two phones simultaneoulsly dial 212-427-7900 and each time, everything works fine ... I cannot get the system to fail even though Kathy and Joel used this test on Wednesday ... but once again there is a slight chance that several other incoming calls might have been coming in already and (when Kathy and Joel were testing) so that these calls were in additon to 3 others
• Bruno said that I can test all lines in the Hunt group by dialing 701, 702, 703, etc. from the Admin phone in the computer lab ... I went to school yesterday (7/5/09) and did exactly this ... all the lines tested fine ... by dialing each number from 701 thru 712 I got the dial tone and was able to dial an outside number ... so at least we have SOME confirmation that the 12 individual numbers are working
• I do NOT have the Verizon repair number that connects us to the people who can check the status of the hunt group ... can you get it to me, Victor?

  Notes from one document I came across from Bruno
  Our main account phone number (for Verizon service) is 212-289-2286.
  We can call 212-890-1003 (account), 212-890-7711 (repair), 890-2640 (from Victor?)
  The last week in November 2006, we had Verizon in to repair static on lines -3834, -1283.  After that phones went to hell.
  

• Bruno is prepared to help us this week, but I believe we should wait ... here are the HUNT GROUP NUMBERS Bruno if you get involved ... whoops ... here is the INFO for the NEW Hunt group
• here are the action steps that I suggest ... I am tied up daily from 7am to 7pm until Friday at 2pm with Summercore at Horace Mann
  • Someone should send a note to STAFF (ML) saying "if you hear from someone that they have had trouble getting thru to 212-427-7900, please send a note to HELP"
  • I believe we should WAIT and DO NOTHING until we get more evidence that we have a problem ... with the problem two weeks ago, when I was in California, it easy easy to verify what Daniel reported since I could not get thru to 212-427-7900
  • If need be, we can get PROMENET involved but I hesitate to do so, since they have just begin as our tech support company and until we get e-rate approval, we may be prepared to pay them by the hour
  • if problems continue, getting Verizon to come in and check things makes sense and costs nothing ... at the very least, Verizon can tell us if the 7900 problem from 6/24/08 is fixed
• by the way, I have notified NAI who has been our point of contact for the job going on next to the gas station ... to my knowledge, they successfully ran fiber from a manhole underground at Park and 129th to the metal pole adjacent to the school and the gas station ...
