This adds the printer to a searchable database on the network and allows you to archive multiple drivers. (This is not necessary for Mac installs because the HP P2015dn supports Bonjour.) No user name is required. Macs can discover the HP2015 using Bonjour. Note, this works over ethernet but not over Airport. Ade's printer is setup locally via USB. Type the 5 letter first name of Mr. Gilbert from piping in lower case for the password to access the printer settings. Steps for HP2015 network setup: 1. Make sure the ethernet port is alive. Test using a laptop. 2. Attach printer. The DHCP server (192.168.1.20) initially will assign a dynamic IP address to the printer. 3. The IP address can be found on the DHCP server, although the name is not obvious. Alternatively, use an ethernet connected Mac to discover the printer. Make sure Bonjour browsing is enabled in Safari. 4. Contact the print server. Under the network settings tab, manually assign a static IP from the reserved pool. To connect a new Macbook to Spare Printer 1) install the driver onto the machine ... this driver is a file click here to download the DMG file that Arthur and I made 2) to play safe, connect via ethernet, open print utility, go to browser window, and then you can select and print 3) once this is added, now we are not sure if you can print to that printer wirelss
Mac OS X: 1. Open Print Center / Printer Setup Utility. 2. Choose "Add Printer" from the Printers Menu. 3. Choose a connection type (e.g. Bonjour, AppleTalk). 4. Select the printer from the printer list. 5. Verify that correct HP Printer Model is selected. 6. Click Add to create Printer queue IMPORTANT -- if your printer has installable options (e.g. duplex, extra paper trays, internal hard drive) you must follow these steps in order to enable these options from the print driver. 1. Select your printer queue in Print Center / Printer Setup Utility. 2. Click on Show Info. 3. Click on the pop-up menu and select Installable Options. 4. Select the control setting that correspond to the options in your printer. 5. After checking and closing this window, these options will now be available from the print dialogs.
Regarding the printers -- I have all the major drivers stored on our network (home\Shared files\Admin\Downloads), along with other useful software, so you can access them without a disk. I initially did this because not all of our workstations had CD drives, but maintained the system for convenience.
To connect PCs to a network printer you should use the printer control panel to add a LOCAL printer (I know it's counterintuitive, but that's Microsoft), and create a new port -- choose "standard TCP/IP," and enter the appropriate IP address for the printer. There are step-by-step instructions for this on the Microsoft website, or just call me and I can talk you through it. HP and other manufacturers do provide auto-install routines, but they're indiosyncratic, sometimes buggy, and I don't recommend them -- the manual install is a simple routine and works for pretty much any network printer.
This will involved three steps: 1 - Click a button in ExtremeZ-IP Print that clones all the Windows print queues to create Mac-accessible print queues. 2 - Associate proper PPD files to the print queues so that the Macs get the right driver information when they try to print. 3 - Install the ExtremeZ-IP print client on the Macs (makes adding printers easy on the Mac side). The installer is found in the following share: smb://CSFSRV1/ExtremeZ-IP OS X Printing (this share point was created automatically when I installed the license today.
I've attached a .zip file that contains all the PPDs (Postscript Printer Description) files for the printers (this will ease the Mac printing). These need to be installed (literally just copied into a folder) ON THE PRINT SERVER and ExtremeZ-IP needs to be configured to look at them.
Click here for the PPDs from CB
I will also connect (Timbuktu) shortly and do this for you). Done by CB
The hardest part about this process is actually finding the PPD files themselves. If you are sitting in front of a Mac with the correct printer software installed, the PPD files are located in /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj and are all .gz (gzip) files. All I do is COPY (not move) the appropriate .gz file to a folder on my desktop and double-click it to unzip it. If the unzipped files does not have .ppd on the end, I rename it so that it does end in .ppd. It's just a little text file and once it's unzipped it can be copied/moved to a folder on the print server.
On my ExtremeZ-IP print server, I have a PPD folder that has subfolder for each brand of printer we have on campus (HP, Xerox, Lexmark) and then I put the .ppd files in the appropriate folder.
In ExtremeZ-IP Print Queue management, just select the Macintosh print queue and check the checkbox that says "force clients to use this PPD file" and then pick the file from the folder:
Logged into a Macintosh as an administrator Connect to CSFSVR1 (In the Finder, Go -> Connect to Server, then type smb://CSFSVR1 and hit ok)You might get prompted for a username/password; if so, just use the administrator account for your network (CSTOREFRONT\Administrator). You'll get a list of file shares to connect to, you want the one called "ExtremeZ-IP OS X Printing" Once you are connected, just copy the .pkg file to the desktop of the Mac and run the installer. To actually connect to your EZIP printers, 1 - Open Print Setup Utility 2 - Click the Add Printer button 3 - On the Printer Browser window, click the More Printers... button 4 - On the top of the new window-shade that opens, select "ExtremeZ-IP Printers" from the menu 5 - Click the "Find a Print Server" button and in the window that opens, type the name of your print server (CSFSVR1) 6 - Click the disclosure triangle next to the name of the printer in the windowpane to see all the ExtremeZ-IP printers on that server. Note: If you want to add a second (or third or fourth or...) you can skip steps 4 & 5 as the Printer Setup Utility will remember these settings.
