| mac server | IP 26 from Brimmer |
to access it from a windows machine you can use a free VNC Viewer here. If you are using a MAC then it should have its own client to remote in. The username is root and the pw is the same as the domain administrators. When using VNC Viewer you only need the IP address and password (not the username). (Note: For this to work you have to do it from a computer inside the network or over a VPN connection)

- csfsrv04 ... IP 41 ... first class + one of the two DHCP servers
- Configuration SS from Ian 3/19/09 ... click
- Stefan Slavkov on July 22, 2009 wrote ... "The first DNS server now is 192.168.1.41 - CSFsrv04 ...
The second DNS server is 192.168.1.53 - CSFsrv09
...
I found one server having 192.168.1.20 for DNS, other having 192.168.1.62.
Also there was conflict between workstation and CSFsrv09. They had same IP.
Because of that DNS server inside in CSFsrv09 didn't work.
I change the DNS order for all servers as I wrote above.
You have an additional DNS server in 192.168.1.62 - CSFsrv12.
You can keep that one as reserve.
Also the DHCP server is providing IP addresses now starting from 192.168.1.65.
Before this was 192.168.1.50 and this was the reason one workstation to get same IP as CSFsrv09. (1.53)"
Ghost Notes
APPETIZER
1. On a functioning PC, connect on our network using REMOTE DESTKTOP
2. Connect to server 2, then launch multicast server.
3. Give it a session name, e.g. Yankees Stink
4. Now check the radio button LOAD TO CLIENTS
5. Choose BROWSE and navigate to this location where Joe put a folder
on the C drive called GHOST IMAGE that contains multiple files
C:\Ghost image \Dell gho
6. now Click ACCEPT CLIENTS on the right
MAIN DISH
1. From the PC WE ARE IMAGING, boot off the pink JOE floppy
2. With the arrows, select multi casting
it says installing packet driver and IP address for
if it cannot find DHCP server then reboot
now it wants session name, e.g. Yankees Stink
it will say SELECT LOCAL DESTINATION .. just OK
when it says Destination Drive Details, choose PRIMARY 3
proceed with disk imaging? yes
now the machine is waiting
DESSERT
1. Now go back to the same machine where you had the appetizer and click SEND
THE NEXT DAY
1. Remove the floppy and reboot the computer perhaps with DOS COMMAND of ???
or you reboot by power off and power on
2. After restarting log on as local administrator which had password of
storefrontxxxyyy where xxx are 3 numbers and yyy are 3 letters
3. On the newly formatted imaged machine, there will be a file on the desktop
called NEWSID
4. Open it so that you can change the computer name on that screen ... this involves
--> choosing RANDOM SID
--> using the name of WLIAG# so we can keep track
--> WLIAG1 was done on 4/30/09 ("we love ian and giuseppe")
--> WLIAG4 was done 5/26/09 from Jason ... I am not sure where 2 and 3 are
leave all defaults as they are and click next next next
it will scroll for minutes as it applies the SID (security identification device) and
updates the registry keys
eventually we boot
then reboot
then join the computer to the domain and you are done ... see this page where it says
"HOW TO JOIN THE COMPUTER TO THE DOMAIN"

Server and Tech Things To Do
--> Stefan and Roger were at Storefront from 9am to 7pm on Friday 8/30/08
... they got 3 donated servers installed (Buckley 320 GB, Harpeth Hall TN PowerEdge 1550 and GA)
--> as of 7/10, Sean has the backups going directly to the E: firewire drive
... they got printers moved from CSFSVR1 to CSFSRV07 ... they got 4 new HP printers installed
on CSFSRV07 and also got Sophos worksing
--> Sean needs to adjust acronis
get asthma database formerly on server 1 working
turn off server 3
find out if the drives from the PowerEdge 1650 that just died can go into the PowerEdge 1550
from Justin Dover from TN
Sophos
--> sophos ID number written on a label
...em0624458268 ... third character is a zero ... 844frs104 (ends in 104)
--> we need to get Sophos working on all PCs and then all Macs
Roger has set it so that the sophos updates are at night
Roger suggests that people be instructed to leave computers on at night
--> when in sophos and it asks for administrator login and password, we need to use use
storefrontschool\administrator and not just administrator ... see note below
--> we use 9 byte password that we got from bruno which is recorded on password sheet
... csf + 3 numbers + 3 letters
--> Adam Gerson says NOT to deploy SOPHOS on the Macs ... from a PC, I was using \\CSFSRV02\InterChk\ESOSX ... Adam showed me to use this command from a Mac smb://192.168.1.21/interchk/
Now for each CLIENT PC
STEP ONE: on each PC, go within CONTROL PANEL to add/remove and get rid of SYMANTEC
anti virus or get rid of AVG ... if AVG, get rid of two things
p.s. for SYMANTEC ANTI VIRUS, you may need the password of "csf + 3 numbers + 3 letters"
STEP TWO: then go to classic view and turn OFF windows firewire all under W ... leave it off
classic view
control panel
then windows firewall
change to off
STEP THREE: then go to server -- perhaps by REMOTE
and deploy sophos for that pc ... the SOPHOS server is on 192.168.1.21 or CSFSVR2
programs sophos
enterprise console
also sophos console
go to unassigned
now drag the computer from UNASSIGNED to CSF
it takes 20 minutes or so
to find computer name
go to RUN
then type CMD
then type HOSTNAME
username: cstorefront\administrator works
password: gid ... three
so far we have done DEV2 ... EAST2 ... EAST7 ... LAB07 ... EAST6 ... FINANCIAL (Dorian Brown 10/31/08)

notes with Stefan on turning a Windows PC into a network machine
if it has come from Dalton or Buckley or has never been on our network
- Go Start menu then right mouse to choose EXPLORE ... go to my Network Places
and RIGHT MOUSE CLICK and choose PROPERTIES
... you will see Local Area Network ... now you will see on the LEFT the ability to remove firewall
- Now go back to START then right mouse click on MY COMPUTER and choose SHOW ON DESKTOP
now RIGHT MOUSE CLICK on MY COMPUTER and choose PROPERTIES ... now choose the TAB
called COMPUTER NAME ... you will see something like network ID with a domain
- The GI password is our network administrator password
- The BR password is our local password which we used for password manager verify identity on the LAB/LAB account
- choose PC part of domain ... administrator
- I named this one LABDELL33A and the next one on 5/19/10 to be LABDELL33BQ
- DOMAIN = storefrontschool.org
- we changed master password from techsaturdays to gi ...
- install sophos and office
- tech saturdays uses master passwords
- we had to change to local non-network password of gi ...
- Stefan also said we should get HP LINUX DRIVER package
- What else? Configure Internet Explorer to point to Storefront Web page
- What else? Install MS Office
- What else? add printers using the elegant trick
CSFSVR1 = 192.168.1.20
CSFSVR2 = 192.168.1.21 (old one was turned off and moved to basement) ... pretty sure that the Harpeth Hall TN Server is now CSFSRV02 as spare server
CSFSVR3 = 192.168.1.22
notice that the first three are of format CSSVR# while the next few are of form CSFSRV##
CSFSRV04 = 192.168.1.41
CSFSRV05 = 192.168.1.42 (now toast as of late June 2008) but Sean and Stefan said to avoid using this IP number
CSFSRV06 = 192.168.1.43
TROI CLIENT PC = 192.168.1.44 (running First Class SYNC and First Class Archive)
CSFSRV07 = 192.168.1.45
CSFSRV08 = 192.168.1.46 ... pretty sure that this is now the 320 GB Buckley Server to be used for Acronis
CSFSRV09 = this is the Sophos server not sure of IP numbers... hope that Stefan and Roger made this 192.168.1.47
more notes from Roger and Stefan
.36 computer lab west
.38 grade 3 printer
click here for list of printers with IP numbers
they go from 23 (Comp Lab) 24 (MagiColor Bus Off) 25 (MagiColor Dev) 31 (Front Office Xerox) 32 (US MW Xerox) 33 (Dev Xerox)
34 (Color 2600n Comp Lab) 35 (Color 2600n Front Office) ... 36 (???) ... 37 (Adjowah HP2015dn) ... 38 (HP2015dn)
40 (HP2015dn) ... whoops 42 (HP2015dn) which used to be a server
HP toolbox FX ... Network Settings ... manual
subnet is 255 255 255 0
gateway is 192 168 1 19
RUN Commands
- go to RUN ... type CMD ... then type net view
- go to RUN ... type CONFIG /ALL
- go to RUN ... type CMD ... type \\192.168.1.45 or type \\csfsrv07 to access HOME FOLDERS
- go to RUN ... type CMD ... type hostname to find out name of the computer
- ipconfig and ipconfig /all
- go to RUN ... \\cfssrv07 ... find printer ... double click
or right mouse click ... remember that HP LaserJ = LaserJet 2100 .23 in lab (Sean tip re adding printer quickly)
- The command MSTSC gets entered into RUN as a shortcut to invoke Remote Desktop
... MSTSC stands for MicroSoft Terminal Service Command ...
nice tip from Ian is that MSTSC /CONSOLE regains control when
too many people have done remote desktop connect/disconnect incorrectly
...
brings up RDP window ... then we go to the server 192.168.1.45 ...
... then Printers and Faxes ...
now choose printer ...
if printer is no longer there, then I would delete them says Jeff
- go to RUN ... type MSCONFIG and go to SERVICES
- whatismyIP.com has speed test
- to fix the problem with a FOLDER such as CP1 and the first graders cannot get real access, go to server and add FULL CONTROL to the folder
of course he says we should get rid of FULL CONTROL and leave MODIFY on
- backup Microsoft CD from Jayson ... http://www.microsoft.com/office/backup/en-us/default.mspx
HOW TO JOIN THE COMPUTER TO THE DOMAIN
- when dealing with a PC that comes back from Horace Mann or a newly imaged one from Ahsan,
you must do these steps
- log on as LOCAL, e.g LAB11(this computer) using Bruno's standard login of administrator
and password with 16 bytes consisting of "storefront" plus 3 numbers and 3 letters
- now go to MY COMPUTER and RIGHT MOUSE CLICK and choose PROPERTIES
- then choose COMPUTER NAME tab
- go to bottom where it says "to join a domain" and change to "cstorefront" or "storefrontschool.org" ... do NOT enter this where it says workgroup and do not use cstorefront.org ... bruno says that cstorefront is a legacy name for storefrontschool.org
it will ask you to authenticate by giving a user, e.g. sbergen and ??? ... now restart and all set
DEALING WITH ONE OF THE 3 NEW LENOVO PCS
- We are using the 10 byte BR password for the local admin for these 3 machines
HOW TO CREATE A NEW NETWORK USER
- Get to Active Directory which is indeed on the START menu of the .41 First Class server
- For example, create a teacher within STAFF called STeacher for Sample Teacher
- Using the graphic as you see below, type in or paste the info into the PROFILE TAB such as
\\csfsrv07\Home\Faculty\steacher or is it
\\csfsrv07\Home\Faculty\%username% ... either you use the USER ID (e.g. "steacher") or you use the
variable called %username% ... you never put the person's name within %
- This trick creates the folder and gives the teacher private password protected access to it
- Test of course to see that it works
HOW TO MAKE SOMEONE A LOCAL ADMNISTRATOR OF HIS/HER OWN PC
- under START go to my computer
- now RIGHT CLICK
- choose MANAGE
- now choose Local Users and Groups
- now open groups
- now open administrators
- add the person, e.g Yahni

Other PC Commands, PC Tips and Procedures
- from Sean Hamilton ... use \\csfsrv07\home\faculty\%username% in profile to give privs to a teacher for private folder which it auto creates
- A Mac client called CORD is available here to get Remote Desktop on a Mac ... here is another one ... click
- not sure of context, but Stefan showed me how to use storefrontschool.org/sbergen at one point
- tip with Roger and adding someone as local admin ... go to MY COMPUTER and RIGHT MOUSE CLICK
on MY COMPUTER ... then choose MANAGE ...
now LOCAL USERS and GROUPS
... now ADMINISTRATORS
...
now add the person as a local admin
- Tip from Bruno ... this free utility is for a PC that has been virus infected ... click
- How to Backup a Floppy ... insert floppy ... go to MY COMPUTER ... open it up ... go
to floppy disk drive ... single click, then right mouse click and choose COPY DISK ... best to protect the good disk by opening the hole
- Stefan tip for initializing a new USB drive on the PC
... go to MY COMPUTER ...
RIGHT CLICK ...
DISK MANAGEMENT ...
follow your nose ... right click in the UNALLOCATED SPACE
Oct 20 2008 Update re Server and Fixed IP
The request for public ip to the FileMaker server has been completed. The IP will be 63.139.199.118 with port tcp5003 open. Please let me know if it's working or not. Once this step is completed I will make the necessary dns changes for it to resolve to a name. Steve, we are still looking into a secure way of allowing file sharing over the internet from that server. Feel free to contact me with any questions. (Roger)
I am at home now and while neither of the attached FMLaunchers would work, I was indeed able to access Filemaker via fmnet:/63.139.199.118/SF_UI (Steve)
July 2 2008 Update
when I was away in Milwaukee and California, we had an issue that was resolved by Peter Herzburg from KWAH coming
to 129th street ... he fixed something on the roof and installed or fixed DHCP on server 4 ... he may have been completely unaware that
DHCP was running on server 5 and that that server had failed ... or it may be that the problem on June 25th was UNRELATED and before
server 5 crashed
"Peter Hartmann" on June 25, 2008 at 6:41 PM wrote:
Hey Steve, Just wanted to fill you in on today's visit. There were 2 problems,
one was a loose fiber plug on the roof and the second was that the
dhcp service stopped on csfsvr1. It is started now but it does seem
flaky and I don't have a lot of confidence in it. To prevent any
immediate problems I have started the dhcp service also on csfsvr04.
Here are the scopes of each.
csfsvr1 192.168.1.120 - 192.168.1.199
csfsvr04 102.168.1.50 - 192.168.1.119
At this point I don't know what caused the problem but it may not
really matter. I think you said csfsrv1 was getting decommissioned
soon, right? Let me know what you'd like me to do.
however
my notes from Sean Hamilton were that the server at IP 42 was handling DHCP + DNS (redundancy) + Acronis
... well that server is now toast and IT IS POSSIBLE that it was toast when Peter was called in ...
Ian came out yesterday and confirmed via Dell that this server (which ran Acronis + DHCP + DNS as redundancy) is now toast
... meanwhile, we have the server at IP 43 running Renaissance and QuickBooks Pro (cruicial)
