It is my hope that Voices in Motion will raise enough money to support The Children's Storefront's On-Going Education Fund, a fund that assists Storefront students as they search for and apply to high schools. Storefront students need to visit schools (often out of state), go on interviews, receive tutoring for entrance exams, pay for application fees and any other support they may need as they move on to further education. The cost to do so is approximately $1,000 per student. Our goal is that Voices in Motion will raise the money needed to support the 17 students that will graduate from the Storefront next year as well as future graduates.
In my education I have learned that the Arts have the power to transcend race, class, gender and other societal barriers. Therefore, I thought it appropriate to make this night about the voices of children and the way in which they express themselves through song and movement. This event connects two communities that have had a huge impact on my life. While on the surface the Storefront and Fieldston appear to be very different schools, they are, in reality, quite similar. Both are committed to academic excellence, experiential learning and encouraging their students to become active and moral members of society. Voices in Motion, I hope, will not only broaden awareness of the Storefront-Fieldston connection but also solidify a mentoring partnership that will last long after I graduate this spring.
I hope you enjoyed this very special evening. Thank you for all of your support!
